Government Grants for New Businesses
There are limited opportunities to obtain grant money to start or expand a business. These grants are for very specific businesses or niches. Most grants are targeted to specific Provinces or Territories to provide economic incentives which encourage the development of a particular industry.
There is minimal funding for general business purposes.
Be Wary of Private ‘Grant Funding’ Companies
There are many companies on the internet who appear to offer grant funding, usually doing so after an advance payment is made. It is advisable to confirm the reliability of these companies by searching the internet for problems with the awarding of funds as well as success stories.
The most reliable source of grant money is from government programs.
Federal government grant information can be found on the Canada Business Network website.
If your business venture requires funding, you may want to consider looking into a business loan, or one of the various Head-Start Programs.
